The new texts we've added introduce students to essential literacy skills such as identifying theme, analyzing characters' motivations, making inferences, citing text evidence, and comparing perspectives across different texts. Students also practice academic discussion skills, learning how to respectfully agree, disagree, and build on each other's ideas.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and engaging. You might see students annotating passages with sticky notes, turning and talking with partners about a powerful quote, participating in small-group literature circles, or independently reading while tracking their thinking in journals. We model strategies like questioning, predicting, summarizing, and making connections to real-world experiences. The goal is not just to \"finish a book,\" but to truly understand it and see themselves reflected in what they read.\r\n\r\nAlready, certain students are especially thriving with these new books. Some of my reluctant readers have become more engaged because they finally see characters who share their backgrounds and experiences. One student who rarely participated in discussions recently led a conversation about a character's choices, confidently citing evidence from the text. Another student who struggles with confidence has been eagerly volunteering to read aloud during group time.\r\n\r\nThese books are helping students discover that reading isn't just a school task—it's a way to explore who they are and who they want to become. Your support is putting powerful stories directly into their hands, and we're already seeing the impact.","fullyFundedDate":1759603115676,"projectUrl":"project/books-and-rewards-building-a-love-for-l/9775796/","projectTitle":"Books and Rewards: Building a Love for Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ching","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9338272"},{"teacherId":7937550,"projectId":9774961,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your incredible generosity! My students love the hands-on process of segmenting individual phonemes and blending sounds together to decode new words. We've incorporated the seats into our small group instruction, which has allowed us to create more dynamic and collaborative learning environments. The seats are also a popular addition to our \"Choose Love\" table, providing a comfortable and calming space for students. This flexibility in seating formats has been instrumental in helping students discover new ways to learn and engage with their work.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the chairs and cushions, their reactions were priceless. They were absolutely amazed and immediately drawn to how comfortable they were. It was clear right away that these new materials offered them a different way to move and focus, which is so important for their learning and concentration. They've truly embraced the opportunity to wriggle and find a seating position that works best for them.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next step is to continue expanding our flexible seating options. With a large class, every bit of additional seating makes a significant difference, allowing more students to benefit from these comfortable and adaptable learning spaces. Your continued support would help us further enhance our classroom environment and provide even more opportunities for students to learn in ways that best suit their individual needs.","fullyFundedDate":1741750097514,"projectUrl":"project/sensational-seats/9155755/","projectTitle":"Sensational Seats","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nakama","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2907221_orig.jpg?crop=2678,2678,x456,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1667325963423","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2907221"},{"teacherId":9804447,"projectId":9156721,"letterContent":"My students were thrilled to see equipment that was made for them.
