These books all have something in common, they spread the message of nurturing, healing, and love. In this day and age, we may be technologically advanced, but nothing technological can give humans love, connection, and belonging, which are universal wants and needs. The increase in depression, anxiety, suicide, and violence in young people is nothing short of alarming. The pandemic further elevated the need for us to give children guidance, support, and opportunities for healing so that they are equipped to deal with life's challenges and to also be part of the solution. Students have been unable to be with their friends for an extended period of time, many missed out on milestone activities, like camp, track meets, and drama productions, they could not participate in the activities that give them joy and an outlet for stress, for example, sports and dance. Books can teach our children how to handle experiences that are unfamiliar and new. They are a great way to teach our children values and appropriate social behavior. Children's books can even help ease anxiety and help children cope by witnessing how characters in stories deal with situations.
