It is so interesting to watch them learn customer service with REAL customers, and troubleshoot problems in REAL time. Some students that are outgoing in class are learning that dealing with customers is a lot different than making their friends laugh. \r\nI also did not realize that operating a coffee maker would be a challenge. There are moving parts and processes that are completely new to them and creating the perfect cup of coffee is truly a craft. Something they thought would be very simple has created a deeper interest in them. They were so cautious and careful, but the more they use them, the more comfortable they get. Getting out of your comfort zone can be challenging, even with something like scissors. These students want to get better at these simple skills while learning new ones. Next, they will be seam ripping and cutting up at garment to use as a pattern for the garment they will make by hand. This week we used glow germ to check if we were washing our hands properly (we were not), and fruit wash to wash our fruit before we made smoothies. The students got to see exactly how germs stay on their hands if not washed properly and how they spread to our clothes and to other people! Some students that were not in my class came out and checked themselves in the UV light to find splatters of glow germ on them too! Measuring was a challenge too but with time they will perfect their coffee making skills. Not only is this a potential life skills but a career skill that could land them a job at any number of places.
