The goal was always to have students do the work work of real scientist. They were able to use real scientific tools such as magnifying glasses and magnets. Students absolutely loved both. My student were able to use the magnifying glass analyzing and identifying the properties of rock. They were able to to see the properties of sedimentary and volcanic rocks from the collections we had in class. This allowed them to understand Earth Science and the cuase and effect of how the rocks were formed and created. \r\n\r\nThe student went bonkers when they saw the new supplies. Many of them traced them out in their Science notebooks and were able to compare them with other supplies we had in class that were not as powerful or cool. They were able to see that all Science supplies are not created equal and understand how Scientist might favor one tool over another. \r\n\r\nThe next steps in our projects are going to be studying fossils and specimens. Many of which can be captured in rocks over time. The headphones provide each student with a quiet controlled learning environment. I could quiz student on an assessment I had created and print up the flash cards for them to take home THAT DAY!\r\nSadly, this year I was injured and had to miss a few months of school. ESGI saved me! The students were able to continue to progress and I was able to monitor them from home. Assessments I created were easy enough for substitutes to use and printing up flash cards was a snap so students and families could keep on top of their progress. When grades came around I knew just were every child was without having to leave my couch! I was able to recover and they were able to continue to progress.\r\nStudents enjoyed your contribution as well. \r\nMia (age 6) said, \"Thank you for the money to buy a new program. Thank you for helping us and everything you done for us. I like to do the flash cards and I'm so good. I know how to do like a LOT!\"\r\nTheo (age 6) was astounded how the tests were always about what we were learning. He said, \"Thank you so much because that's perfect because it (ESGI) always knows what we are learning. It's magic. I know ALL of mine.\" Theo and many other students learned all of their flash cards. They will be well prepared for 1st grade. Students who didn't learn all of the flash cards are given a packet to work on over the summer. \r\nMackenzie (age 5) sums it up best by saying, \"Thank you. That was really kind of you because that was a lot of money and that was really kind to have donations. I wish you could have seen their eyes as the butterflies came out.\r\n\r\nWe journaled their growth and charted the days in each cycle period. The art lessons were about caterpillars and butterflies. The engineering we worked on creating homes for the caterpillars and then the butterflies. This book series is excellent to encourage self directed research and learning. Students are now able to read, learn and write what they have learned. The animal stickers will supplement the writing process.
