During collaborative activities, index cards are shared, sorted, and discussed, fostering meaningful peer interaction and collective learning.\r\n\r\nHighlighters have also proven to be an incredibly effective resource in helping students develop stronger reading strategies. I regularly ask students to color-code their reading to identify specific types of information within a text. For example, students may highlight imagery in one color, figurative language in another, and moments of thematic significance in a third. This visual approach helps students break down dense passages and better understand how different literary elements work together. Color-coding has been especially beneficial for students who may feel overwhelmed by complex texts, as it provides structure and clarity while reinforcing purposeful reading habits.
