My students are excited to come in each morning and quickly settle in with a selected bin!\r\n\r\nI have noticed two strong impacts from our new stem bins. One observation is that I've noticed students choosing to work with peers that they wouldn't normally choose. They are finding common ground with new friends and expanding their established social circles. Another impact, and one that I was particularily hoping for, is extensive creativity, problem solving, and building skills. Each day I notice kids using the materials in new ways. Some are using the enclosed booklets for ideas and others are working with partners to create new designs and pathways. The students are always eager to share what they have done!\r\n\r\nOur new bins are having a daily impact on my students. They were all so excited to see the different items we purchased for them to use. They could not wait to explore and create which they have done a wonderful job doing. I love seeing all of their creations and how they are using their imaginations. \r\n These activities are strengthening collaboration and communication skills, as students worked in teams. STEM activities have been very beneficial for my students because it has built early thinking skills through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences. These activities are also helping with fine motor coordination. Hands-on STEM tasks such as building with blocks, connecting gears, snapping together manipulatives, or assembling simple structures has helped strengthen the small muscles in the hands and improved hand-eye coordination. These items are really helpful to students who are having a stressful day and just need something to help them calm their minds. Just this past weekend, one of our students had a fire in their apartment and now is displaced while they wait to find permanent housing. She has found some of the items to be especially helpful when she starts to worry about what might happen next.\r\n\r\nYour donations really do make a difference for the students in my class. They are working on how the composition of a photo can really help a person learn about a specific organism. The ability to capture things they are observing outside and then bring those photos back to class have enhanced our discussions. We are also able to split up and do more observations at once and then share the photos with the rest of the class. The act of describing the photos has also allowed us to work on scientific writing and speaking.\r\n\r\nThe yearbook committee has been able to put the cameras to great use as well. Just last week, they were able to get photos of two classes doing a project that involved community members.
