My students are using the new snacks as a small but meaningful way to support their overall wellness. \r\n\r\nAs a Health and Wellness teacher, I want students to understand that food is fuel and that taking care of their bodies includes making nutritious choices. The snacks give me an opportunity to reinforce those ideas while also providing something for students who may come to school hungry or need a little extra energy during the day. When students first saw the new snacks, they were immediately excited! They loved having a classroom where healthy snacks were available and were excited to have different options to choose from. \r\n\r\nIt has also created opportunities for conversations about nutrition, reading food labels, and making choices that help our bodies feel and perform their best. As we continue our nutrition and wellness lessons, students will connect what they are learning in class to their everyday lives. The snacks will serve as a practical reminder that wellness isn't just something we learn about, but it is something we practice every day.","fullyFundedDate":1782754596750,"projectUrl":"project/food-is-fuel-and-incentive-for-learnin/10307964/","projectTitle":"Food Is Fuel (and incentive) for Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hauser","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10510683"},{"teacherId":10162309,"projectId":9557760,"letterContent":"Your support has made a meaningful difference in our 6th grade classroom! The headphones have allowed students to use technology in ways that better meet their individual learning needs. During reading intervention and independent practice, students can listen to directions, instructional videos, and digital activities without distractions, allowing them to work at their own pace. The mobile whiteboard has also become an important instructional tool. I use it to display our sound wall for our reading intervention curriculum, and because it can be moved around the room, I can position it where students can easily see and interact with the sounds and patterns we are learning.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students is having tools that make learning feel more accessible and engaging. Students love being able to grab their headphones and independently get started with technology-based activities. The mobile whiteboard has also made our sound wall much more interactive because I can bring it closer to students rather than having them try to see a permanent display from across the room. And, of course, the snacks have been a huge hit! Having snacks available helps students who may come to school hungry stay focused, comfortable, and ready to learn throughout the day.\r\n\r\nI have especially seen students who sometimes struggle with focus or confidence become more independent with these resources. The headphones give students a quieter, more focused way to access instruction, while the mobile whiteboard allows me to physically bring important reading concepts closer to students who need additional visual support. Having snacks available also removes one more barrier to learning for students who may be distracted by hunger. Thank you for providing resources that help me meet my students where they are and give them the tools, support, and confidence they need to grow!","fullyFundedDate":1755530174050,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-minds-building-thinkers-tools/9557760/","projectTitle":"Fueling Minds, Building Thinkers: Tools for 6th Grade Success!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Thompson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10162309_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755188017659","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10162309"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_51647","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":425,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":27,"percentWhite":50,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":11,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":79.4,"schoolId":51647,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about McKinley Steam Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"McKinley Steam Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/iowa/cedar-rapids-community-school-district/mckinley-middle-school/51647"}
