Students talk about what they are reading, make predictions, ask questions, share connections, and sometimes disagree about what a character should do next! These books have given students opportunities to have meaningful conversations about friendship, family, courage, belonging, and perseverance. I have especially loved seeing students who may not always consider themselves \"readers\" become invested in a story and eager to find out what happens next. The classroom quickly filled with thoughtful conversations, laughter, predictions, and students eagerly sharing favorite moments from their books.\r\n\r\nThese new texts have helped students practice important reading skills such as making inferences, identifying themes, analyzing characters, and supporting ideas with evidence from the text. Students are also strengthening collaboration and communication skills as they discuss their books with classmates and work together to complete projects. Reading in our classroom looks active and student-centered, with students gathered around books, discussing ideas, asking questions, and helping one another understand challenging parts of the story.\r\n\r\nTo finish our book clubs, students created poster projects to showcase their books and share recommendations with classmates. The posters turned out wonderfully and are something I can continue using next year to introduce future students to these titles and build excitement for reading.
