Every grade level (K-5) asked when they could use the microscopes. I explained that I had to open 17 boxes and load batteries into each of the microscopes. That explanation bought me a few days before they asked again! Once they knew there were batteries in the microscopes, they could not wait to use them. \r\n With one group of students, we cracked open geodes and looked at them under the microscope. It was fascinating to them (and to me). They were sharing their slides to see the different patterns and colors of the geodes. It was a great moment! With another group of students, I used the pre-made slides to view many different things, such as a butterfly wing, pollen, and small parts of flowers and leaves. Hearing the excitement and wonder from the students is such a great feeling and great to experience as a teacher! \r\n The students have been exploring with the microscopes. I have created lesson plans to teach how the microscope works, how much it magnifies an object, and the parts of the microscope. For the older students in grades 4 and 5, I created a lab sheet for them to draw and write about what they see in preparation for middle school. In middle school, they will have microscopes, and I know these students will be well-prepared to use them! I am extremely grateful for this honor!
