These students literacy skills are severely lacking. The reading books I've selected are at varying levels and include high interest topics that students have requested like basketball, romance, and dogs. Having books that they are interested in and that are at their reading level will allow kids to access texts in order to practice grade level skills as well as increase their reading joy! The curriculum books I've requested will do wonders for building all of my students reading and writing skills because it will allow me to start them off where they are at and move along with them, instead of giving them all 5th grade materials that the majority of them cannot access on their own.
