I expected the children to become friends with and maybe even just more aware of the younger children in our building through this project but even with only a few weeks to try it out last school year, the impact was far greater than I expected. I had almost daily requests to take a picture or handwritten note to one of their buddies in Kindergarten. My 2nd graders also wanted to attend the kindergarten graduation ceremony of their new friends but it didn't work out because we had a different event to attend at the same time. This coming school year I plan to let our principal know to block the calendar off for us to be able to go and cheer for our kindergarten book buddies as they graduate kindergarten!\r\n\r\nI can't wait to see the even greater bond that will form as we implement this for an entire school year! Once they felt confident reading independently, we partnered with younger classes to share their books and read aloud to them.
