Instead of unstructured time, students now rotate through organized game stations where they are actively engaged in teamwork, problem-solving, and friendly competition. One memorable moment was watching a group of students who typically struggle with peer interactions successfully work together during a cooperative game—encouraging each other, taking turns, and celebrating small wins. These are the same students who often need redirection during academic time, but during this structured brain break, they were fully engaged and demonstrating positive social behaviors.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was incredible. Students were eager to explore each game, asking questions and quickly diving in. Many of them expressed that they had never had access to some of these types of games before, especially in a school setting. What stood out the most was how quickly the tone of the room shifted—students were laughing, communicating, and genuinely enjoying themselves in a positive and productive way. This has helped build stronger relationships not only among students, but also between students and staff.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we plan to intentionally connect these games to our social-emotional learning goals by reinforcing skills like communication, self-management, and responsible decision-making. We are also beginning to incorporate student choice and leadership by allowing students to help facilitate games and model expectations for their peers. These resources have not only transformed our activity time, but they are helping us build a more positive, supportive learning environment where students feel connected, capable, and ready to learn. Thank you for making this possible for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1769974703365,"projectUrl":"project/more-than-academics-building-life-skill/10060831/","projectTitle":"More Than Academics: Building Life Skills Through SEL","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Collier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6283311_orig.jpg?crop=1071,1071,x0,y218&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1702406437638","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6283311"},{"teacherId":6283311,"projectId":9566354,"letterContent":"I wanted to take a moment to share the incredible impact your generosity has had on our classroom through the Fueling for Success project. Because of you, our PBIS store is fully stocked with snacks that students can purchase using points they earn for positive behavior, academic effort, attendance, and personal growth.\r\n\r\nWe use the snacks as part of our structured PBIS incentive system. Students set weekly goals, track their points, and reflect on the behaviors and habits that helped them earn rewards. One moment that truly stood out was when a student who has struggled with engagement worked consistently for an entire week to earn enough points to \"shop.\" That moment reminded me that this project is about so much more than food — it's about dignity, motivation, and ownership.\r\n\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the stocked PBIS store, their excitement was immediate. They were eager to learn how they could earn points and started asking thoughtful questions about expectations and goals. The snacks instantly became a tangible representation of success — something they could see, work toward, and achieve.\r\n\r\nNext, we are continuing to connect our PBIS incentives to academic goal-setting. Students are working on improving assignment completion and participation, and they are beginning to track their own growth more independently. We are also integrating reflection activities where students identify the specific choices that led to earning their rewards, reinforcing the connection between effort and outcome.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped create a positive, motivating environment where students feel encouraged and recognized for their hard work. The bean bag chairs purchased through your donation have quickly become a favorite part of the classroom—students absolutely love them.\r\n\r\nEach day, students rush to class eager to grab a bean bag and settle in for learning. It's amazing to see how something as simple as flexible seating has made such a big difference in motivation and focus. Many students now stay on task for longer periods, knowing that responsible behavior and consistent effort help them keep the privilege of sitting in a bean bag.\r\n\r\nBeyond comfort, the new seating has helped foster a sense of ownership and pride in the classroom. Students are more relaxed, engaged, and enthusiastic about learning. Instead of facing disciplinary action or missing class time, students are able to borrow a uniform for the day and focus on what truly matters—their learning.\r\n\r\nThis project has helped reduce dress code violations, improved student morale, and allowed staff to redirect energy toward teaching and supporting students.
