The excitement when the materials arrived was immediate. My students could not wait to explore the new equipment, especially the sensory swing, crash pad, and movement seating. These resources have quickly become more than just fun additions to our room. They give my students meaningful ways to move, regulate their bodies, take a safe sensory break, and prepare themselves to return to learning.\r\n\r\nOne of the greatest impacts has been having multiple sensory options available so students can begin learning what works best for their own bodies. A student may choose time in the swing, use the crash pad for heavy movement, or use a rocking seat before transitioning back to academic work. Instead of sensory regulation being separate from learning, we are able to build it naturally into the school day. These moments give us opportunities to practice communication, making choices, waiting, following safety expectations, and recognizing when our bodies need a break.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue teaching students how to use these tools with increasing independence and purpose. We will keep building sensory routines into transitions, academic activities, and regulation breaks so students can better recognize what they need and return to learning ready to participate. We are so excited to begin using these materials to support both academic learning and self-regulation.\r\n\r\nThe math resources will be used during small-group instruction, independent practice, and hands-on learning activities. They will give my students additional opportunities to practice important skills such as number sense, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and problem-solving in ways that are engaging and accessible to their individual learning needs.\r\n\r\nI know my students will be incredibly excited when they see the new materials! They especially enjoy hands-on activities, and I cannot wait to see their reactions as they explore the new math tools and sensory fidgets for the first time. The fidgets will be available to help students regulate their bodies, manage their emotions, improve focus, and take appropriate sensory breaks when needed.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we will work on teaching students how to independently choose tools that support their learning and recognize when they may need a sensory or movement break.
