Our students have used these resources to transition from traditional learners to active mentors; after training a small group on the first garden bed, those students stepped up to lead other grade levels through the entire construction process. When the materials first arrived, the students were buzzing with excitement, and that initial spark turned into deep engagement. For our more introverted students, having the freedom to design their own beds served as a therapeutic outlet that gave them the voice and confidence they often struggle to find in a standard classroom setting.\r\n\r\nThe impact of this project reached a beautiful peak on our final day of construction when our students took on the role of teachers, showing their younger siblings exactly how to plant and care for the flowers. It was a powerful moment that drew the attention and smiles of the community at large. Looking ahead, our next step is to integrate a new curriculum focused on sustainability and botany as we learn to maintain the garden and grow our own herbs. This project has created a lasting \"safe space\" where students are now constantly asking, \"Are we working on the garden today?\"—a testament to the joy and curiosity you have helped cultivate at MLVRCS.","fullyFundedDate":1765482420788,"projectUrl":"project/harvesting-hope-building-our-first-scho/9719117/","projectTitle":"Harvesting Hope: Building Our First School Garden","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Soto","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7571622_orig.jpg?crop=800,800,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758043741265","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7571622"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_68256","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":580,"numTeachers":53,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":94,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":61.8,"schoolId":68256,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Maria L Varisco - Rogers Charter School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Maria L Varisco - Rogers Charter School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/new-jersey-department-of-education/maria-l-varisco-rogers-cs/68256"}
