The Aquatic Science class worked as a team to set up the tank, taking care to set up the gravel, plants, and Spongebob pineaaple home pefectly to make the aquarium inviting for its new residents. After waiting a week for the tank to cycle, and testing the water chemistry for acceptable levels of ammonium, nitrate, and pH, we added four new residents and soon named them - Blossom, Bubbles, Peanut Butter, and Jelly!\r\n\r\nSince then, students in all classes (Biology, Homeostasis, Aquatic Science) regularly check in on the fish - always willing to feed them, replace filters and gravel, add new plants, and generally watch the fabulous foursome swim about happily in their environment. We've incorporated the tank in our discussions of cycling of materials (like carbon, oxygen and nitrogen). And we've solved the dilemma of how to feed them over our lengthy breaks (slow release food pellets!).\r\n\r\nIn general, the fish tank has been a great addition to the classroom. We are endlessly entertained and always learning. Because of you, my students now have access to whiteboards and markers that have transformed the way they engage with learning every day.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the whiteboards for vertical board activities, where students stand, write, revise, and problem-solve in real time. For example, during a recent lesson, students worked in small groups at the boards to draft their reasons for who is to blame to Macbeth's downfall. Being able to see their thinking on the board allowed students to quickly revise, explain their ideas to peers, and learn from one another. The whiteboards made learning active, visible, and collaborative.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our next steps include using the whiteboards for daily warm-ups, grammar practice, collaborative writing, and test prep activities. Students will continue to practice explaining their thinking, defending their answers, and revising their work—skills that are essential for strong reading and writing.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped create a more interactive, inclusive, and student-centered classroom. The digital clock helps students better manage their time during lessons, and independent work. The lanterns, posters, and plants have been arranged around the room to create a colorful and engaging atmosphere. I've had several students comment on how they love the new look to the room. \r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, especially my students from last year, their reactions were full of joy and smiles. They immediately noticed the brighter colors and cozy touches and asked why they didn't have all of this last year. Many students commented how they love all the colorful lanterns and posters. \r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue using this welcoming environment. These materials will continue to support a positive classroom community throughout the year.\r\n\r\nThank you again for giving my students more than just materials—you have helped create a space where they feel encouraged, focused, and excited to learn. Because of you, my students now have journals and creative materials that have truly transformed the way they approach writing.\r\n\r\nStudents are using their journals daily as a safe space to capture their thoughts, draft short stories, and experiment with poetry. They really enjoy the process of jotting down stream of consciousness or make up stories. It helps them to write out their thoughts and this hands on approach makes writing much more engaging.\r\n\r\nOne powerful moment came when students used magnetic poetry pieces to physically move words around, test different combinations, and discover how word choice can completely change meaning.
