While many of you love reading (just like we do!), these new texts are helping us teach important skills beyond simply enjoying a story. Through these books, students are practicing comprehension strategies such as making predictions, identifying the main idea, retelling key details, and asking and answering questions about what they read. We are also working on foundational skills like fluency, expression, decoding unfamiliar words, and building vocabulary. Having a wider variety of engaging and culturally relevant texts allows me to meet students at their individual reading levels while also challenging them to grow as confident, independent readers.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is an active and joyful time of day. We gather together for read-aloud's where we stop to think deeply about the story, turn and talk with partners, and connect the text to our own lives. During independent reading, students eagerly choose books from our classroom library and practice reading quietly or with a partner. You'll often see students sprawled out with books in cozy corners, whisper-reading to build fluency, or excitedly recommending a new favorite to a friend. Because we read every day, many of my students had memorized the few books we previously had. Now, they are discovering new characters, authors, and topics that reignite their curiosity and excitement.\r\n\r\nThere are so many students who are especially benefiting from these new books. My bilingual learners are thrilled to find stories that reflect their languages and cultures, which helps them make stronger connections and feel seen in our classroom library. Some of my emerging readers are proudly finishing books independently for the first time because they finally have texts that are just right for them. Watching their confidence grow as they turn each page has been incredibly powerful. Your donation has not only put new books into their hands, but it has also strengthened their love of reading and belief in themselves as readers. Thank you for making this possible for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1767219867663,"projectUrl":"project/more-books-please/9941212/","projectTitle":"More Books Please","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Odeh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8641185_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1661189846837","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8641185"},{"teacherId":2381590,"projectId":9211042,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your kind and generous donation to our classroom and school.
