I work in a community where most parents are working very hard to provide for their families, and at times, making ends meet is very hard. I also know that kids in general who feel cared for and who know their basic needs will be met at school whether or not money is a barrier at home benefit from this at school. My students have open access to things like deodorant, hair ties, hair brushes, socks, toothbrushes, chapstick, and snacks, to name a few. Another of many changes was to our breakfast routine: in past years, we began our day in kindergarten by leisurely eating together, sharing updates about our lives, and talking about themes like kindness and getting along; my days recently have begun by shuffling 22 barely awake, backpack-wearing 5-year-olds down a set of stairs and into the long cafeteria line, sharing our meal in the raucous and echoing lunchroom, making it nearly impossible to cover as much necessary ground as I had before with our scant time for morning meeting.\r\nThanks to your generous gifts of these books and supplies, I am able to integrate social-emotional learning throughout all parts of the day, particularly in those rare times when we finish an assignment early and have a few extra minutes in any part of the day. It's more important than ever to focus on aspects like compassion and gratitude, and that is exactly what these books are meant to help teach. Thank you again for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1759199251239,"projectUrl":"project/growing-hearts-and-minds-in-kindergarten/9703819/","projectTitle":"Growing Hearts and Minds in Kindergarten","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hall","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9735133"},{"teacherId":7861056,"projectId":9604847,"letterContent":"Your funding for Math Interactively! has made learning fun and interactive allowing for more student voice describing their thinking and deeper understanding.
