She used new sequencing words, \"first,\" \"next,\" and \"then\", that we've been practicing, and she beamed when her classmates understood her directions. Through the books you provided, I am able to reach hundreds of students — not only those I see daily, but also all K-3rd grade students whom I see weekly. The books I requested focused not only on reading but also on fostering creativity.\r\n\r\nAs the Gifted and Talented teacher at my school, I am tasked with helping students focus on creativity and think beyond the traditional box. Many students stay within the lines and hesitate to venture outside. However, I encourage them to look at things differently. One of the best ways I have found to accomplish this is through books. I love finding unique stories that stretch their thinking and show them that the world is not simply black and white.\r\n\r\nThe pictures you see are from a lesson I taught to my K-3 students about different perspectives. I love how the images show what everyone typically sees — and then, through creativity, what else it could become. The lesson also introduced them to the idea that Jamie Lee Curtis is not only an actress but also an author. I loved pointing out that they, too, have the ability to be many things, and books can help unlock those possibilities.\r\n\r\nFor my 4th-6th grade students, reading is an outlet for pleasure. I have created cozy spaces around my classroom where they can stretch out and simply enjoy reading. My goal is to inspire my students to become lifelong readers, and there is no better way to do that than to give them a welcoming space to fall in love with books. In fact, my 6th-grade students were so inspired that they decided to create a reading challenge for the 2nd and 3rd graders, encouraging them to read daily for a month in a variety of creative ways. It has been wonderful to see how reading has become an integral part of their lives — and how they are now passing that love on to younger students.\r\n\r\nThank you again for sponsoring reading in my classroom.
