Your kindness has helped put new books into the hands of our young readers, giving them opportunities to explore new stories, discover interesting characters, and develop a lifelong love for reading.\r\n\r\nOur first graders were especially excited when they saw their new books and art supplies! Their faces lit up as they explored the materials, eager to put them to use and create their own masterpieces. Having these wonderful resources allows us to bring literacy and art together, making reading an exciting and creative learning experience. After reading stories, students have opportunities to bring their favorite characters, settings, and story events to life through art projects, allowing them to stretch their imaginations and grow as both readers and young artists.\r\n\r\nOne of our favorite projects was inspired by The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. After reading the story and discussing its message about believing in yourself, taking chances, and embracing creativity, students used their new art supplies to make their very own dots. Each student created a unique piece of artwork, proudly making their own mark! It was wonderful to see their excitement as they experimented with colors and designs, realizing that there was no right or wrong way to express their creativity. This activity reminded our young learners that everyone is an artist, every creation is special, and sometimes all it takes is a little encouragement to discover what we are capable of achieving.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue combining literacy and art through fun, seasonal projects! With Halloween approaching, we are excited to read Spookley the Square Pumpkin and Gustavo, the Shy Ghost. After reading each story, students will create their own pumpkin and ghost-inspired artwork using their new art supplies. These projects will not only encourage creativity but also provide opportunities to discuss important themes such as kindness, friendship, acceptance, and celebrating what makes each of us unique. Through these hands-on activities, students will strengthen their reading comprehension while expressing their understanding of stories through art.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is helping us create a classroom where reading and art go hand in hand, curiosity is encouraged, and students are inspired to become confident readers and creative thinkers. Students will be able to better hear themselves and one another during rehearsals and performances, which will improve timing, confidence, and overall performance quality. In addition, students are gaining exposure to the technical side of theater, learning how sound systems work and how productions come together behind the scenes.\r\n\r\nStudents put forth so much effort into their rehearsals so when it comes to show time, they will be excited about the clear, professional sound the new equipment provides. In \"tech week\" of productions, there is pure magic in seeing the students being able to get their mics on and hear their voices amplified and balanced like in a real theater production. It makes the experience feel more authentic and gives them a sense of pride. \r\n\r\nThis also allows our stage crew to witness how a sound system works and gives them exposure to helping other theater productions and taking on leadership roles in helping manage equipment during rehearsals.
