Our school is an all girls public school and without the support of generous donors, my girls may not have the same opportunities as other students. I was able to purchase dry erase markers and dry erase pockets to use in during our math lessons. These pockets allow the students to use charts and graphs that come with our math curriculum. The girls use these pockets at least 3 times per week, and get excited that they can solve multiple problems without having to erase. In the past, they had to draw and erase math problems on our white boards to solve the problems. Now they insert the chart or graph and can solve problems only erasing the numbers. This has allowed my girls to soar!\r\n The LCD boards replaced our old worn out white boards. Research shows that girls tend to learn better with colorful items and supplies. The LCD boards display answers in a variety of colors. The girls beg to use them everyday. We use them to practice fact fluency, spelling words, word building and a multitude of other third grade skills. \r\n The math journals have enabled my high achieving girls to work at their own pace when they finish assigned work, and to also help my students who need reinforcement and extra support. My favorite comment from a student was \"these journals are fun!\" The girls do not see the journals as extra work, but as a reward for completing their work. The students were able to be creative and think outside the box.\r\n\r\nYour impact stretches beyond the final curtain call. That activity led to richer discussions and clearer evidence‑based explanations,—outcomes I attribute to having accessible, writable surfaces for every student.
