Your generosity helped us buy book bins, labeling stickers, and exciting new books that have already brought fresh energy to our shelves. These materials make it easier for students to find texts that match their interests and reading levels, and the new titles are supporting lessons in vocabulary development, comprehension strategies (like summarizing and making inferences), character analysis, and making connections between texts and real-world experiences. \r\n\r\nDespite me being the math and science teacher, in our classroom, reading is still active and student-centered: we use extra time for independent or partner reading, written responses, or to complete research for science. Students who previously chose the same few titles are now exploring a wider range of genres; emerging readers are more confident using labeled bins to pick appropriately leveled books, and our reluctant readers are staying engaged longer with high-interest titles that reflect their lives and interests. The iPad styluses let students storyboard episodes, annotate scripts, and collaborate more precisely during planning and research. \r\n\r\nStudents are most excited about hearing their voices play back professionally and seeing their ideas come to life as polished podcast episodes. They love the real-world feel of producing something that sounds like a \"real\" show. Several students who were previously shy about speaking up in class have especially warmed to the technology; the recording setup gives them a safe way to practice and build confidence, while students with strong visual ideas but weaker handwriting skills use the styluses to contribute more fully to planning and creative work. One recent project was a student-produced episode called \"Scary Stories,\" where students researched different stories that are traditionally told within their own cultures, wrote scripts for telling those stories in kid-friendly ways, and recorded them in Garage Band.
