This is either because it is hard for them (and hard things are often not fun), or because their learning disability also results in trouble managing their attention, or both. It might seem like going the extra mile to get tactile activities, but for these kids, it can be absolutely necessary.\r\n\r\nHands-on materials that engage a child's senses can turn learning from a paperwork-based chore to a fun social activity. Materials like these, the materials you funded for my Speech room, actually trick kids into learning. These materials often make the difference - it would have been a struggle to keep them engaged, but instead they are begging to stay when time is up! Kids are now always asking me to \"play with the hamburger\" and they get so excited when I pull out the little plastic toys for categorizing. I wish you could see their faces light up.\r\n\r\nImagine you are a kindergartener with a language-based disability. You're not going to learn prepositions like \"under\" or \"between\" by listening to someone tell you what those words mean. You need to see it and feel it to really understand.\r\n\r\nI wish you could be here to see the impact that these kinds of materials make day by day. But you can't, so the best I can do is thank you profusely. It really keeps me going when I know that others are pitching in with me, when I'm not alone just draining my own future savings to give kids the quality of education they deserve. It helps me so much and keeps me going, to feel supported in this way. Thank you, thank you, thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1745496300134,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-sensory-speech-language-therapy/9174218/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Sensory Speech-Language Therapy","teacherDisplayName":"Mx. Your kindness provided our students with essential school supplies — including pencil boxes, markers, pencils, erasers, and snacks — and the impact has been truly heartwarming.\r\n\r\nFrom the moment the students saw their supplies, their excitement was contagious. For many of them, it was the first time they had their own set of materials. Their faces lit up with smiles, and several students immediately began organizing their new pencil boxes with pride. One child exclaimed, \"I've never had my own pencil boxes before!\" It was a moment of pure joy that reminded all of us how powerful even the smallest acts of generosity can be.\r\n\r\nThese resources are being used every single day in meaningful ways. The markers are especially popular during guided spelling sessions. Students love writing out their words in bright colors, which has made spelling practice more engaging and fun. The pencils are being put to great use during writing time — from short stories to daily journals. Students are more focused and confident now that they have their own tools at their desks, ready to go.\r\n\r\nThe snacks have also been a huge hit. They've become an important part of our recess routine, helping students refuel and return to class ready to learn. It's such a simple thing, but it makes a big difference in their energy, attention, and mood throughout the day.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're beginning a new unit on storytelling, where students will write and illustrate their own short books. The supplies you provided — especially the markers and pencils — are helping students bring their creativity to life on the page. It's inspiring to see their imaginations at work, and your donation is directly supporting their growth as writers and artists.\r\n\r\nBeyond the materials, your gift sent a powerful message to our students: that there are people out there who believe in them, who care about their learning, and who want to see them succeed. That kind of support means so much — not just to the students, but to us as educators as well.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity. You've made our classroom a brighter, more joyful place, and we are truly grateful. Your donation didn't just provide supplies — it created moments of happiness, pride, and confidence that will stay with these students for a long time.","fullyFundedDate":1746786186799,"projectUrl":"project/helping-hands/9280647/","projectTitle":"Helping Hands","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hitman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9422966"},{"teacherId":9064040,"projectId":9226294,"letterContent":"I write to say how much our classroom transformed after we bought the tools, particularly for our little students. Having those tools enabled students to explore a wide range of teaching materials, and I sincerely feel it made learning more lively, dynamic, and thoroughly enjoyable for everyone involved. Once the printer was installed, I was able to create vibrant, customized worksheets, visual aids, and interactive games on demand, to which our young students responded enthusiastically and focused. Print materials—especially those in vibrant color—helped individuals engage more deeply than digital options ever could, as print has been proved to improve understanding and attention span in educational contexts.Everything changed once I had the laminator by my side. I could save flashcards, posters, name tags, and center games by transforming them into long-lasting, wipeable resources that could withstand everyday use, spills, and enthusiastic play. These materials remained colorful and useful even after repeated use, saving time and paper by eliminating regular reprinting. We also created engaging, hands-on resources for students to use, such as dry-erase task cards, reusable charts, and learning games. This tactile, multimodal approach increased engagement, enhanced learning, and encouraged fun discovery. Looking back, our investment of a printer and laminator did more than just simplify preparation; it also enhanced our learning environment by enabling kids to explore letters, numbers, stories, and games in bright, engaging formats. I saw young students laughing as they traced on laminated charts, proudly utilizing their personalized name tags, and eagerly replaying bright laminated activities again and over. These were not simply tools, but doors to joy, connection, and lifelong inquiry. Thank you for your contribution to that transformation. I greatly loved how such resources enabled our students to study with their hands, hearts, and imaginations—and to genuinely enjoy learning.","fullyFundedDate":1745496313285,"projectUrl":"project/engage-and-motivate-learning/9226294/","projectTitle":"Engage and Motivate Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Pelayo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9064040_orig.jpg?crop=2746,2746,x0,y283&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1685576646299","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9064040"},{"teacherId":9268826,"projectId":9173852,"letterContent":"I can't overstate how valuable these resources are for my bilingual students with language delays - which is most of my students, by the way! These kids have the double whammy of a language learning disability while they are also acquiring a second language, and they are expected to use that second language to learn academics. This is why it's crucial to have materials with visuals that provide vocabulary in both languages, because these kiddos need to catch up in both languages at the same time. \r\n\r\nVisuals are a lot more universal than written or spoken words, and having these materials with beautiful, interesting images is extremely helpful for these kiddos. The full color pictures are also a lot more interesting than black-and-white print-out worksheets. Visual quality makes a big difference in holding a child's attention, especially these days, and I could not afford to buy so many beautiful full-color materials without your help. (At least, not without burning myself out.)\r\n\r\nI am seeing the difference in real-time. For example, when I pull out that bilingual sticker book, or the \"Lift-a-Flap\" early vocabulary book, my TK students light up. Normally they act like little chaos gremlins, but while these books are out, they are patiently waiting their turn and actually paying attention to the lesson on their own. \r\n\r\nThe \"5 Words a Day\" books are awesome for supporting a home-based program for families who have the time and energy to help with language goals after school. These books have been a great support for my bilingual students who tend to regress a lot over the summer. I set up a reward plan with the family (e.g. the student will go get ice cream if they finish their whole week of 5-Words-a-Day) and it helps the student maintain their language development progress over school breaks.\r\n\r\nThank you again, you make my job so much easier. Plus, when the kids are feeling successful having fun, so am I.","fullyFundedDate":1742253514613,"projectUrl":"project/bilingual-materials-for-speech-language/9173852/","projectTitle":"Bilingual Materials for Speech-Language Therapy","teacherDisplayName":"Mx.
