With the addition of clear labels and new shelving materials, students can now find their favorite books and topics with ease. During a recent class visit, students excitedly helped sort and label books by genre and subject. \r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the updated media center, their enthusiasm was contagious. Many immediately began exploring the shelves, commenting on how much easier it was to locate specific books. They loved the sense of order and accessibility, and several students discovered new areas of interest simply by browsing the newly labeled sections.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will take on the role of \"media center helpers,\" maintaining the organization and updating labels as our collection grows. We also plan to launch a book scavenger hunt, encouraging students to use the new system to find books on a variety of topics. Through exploring and expanding their ideas students are able to have purposeful and meaningful conversations about the decisions of the characters as people, their motivations, and the driving forces behind their WHY. \r\n\r\nAnother amazing way these books are impacting us is through our social emotional learning. I purposefully chose books with complicated characters who have to make \"grey\" decisions. As students read, they will get to explore their own beliefs and thoughts on certain issues. They will do most of their reading independently, but have collaborative conversations. This shows them that reading does matter and can help foster some new friends and conversations!
