Your generosity has made a meaningful difference in how our art room functions each day.\r\n\r\nBecause of these supplies, our classroom is now able to run more smoothly and safely. Art can be messy by nature, but having access to disinfecting wipes, paper towels, soap, and other materials allows us to clean up quickly and efficiently. Instead of worrying about spills, sticky tables, or limited resources, students are able to fully engage in the creative process.\r\n\r\nThe impact has gone beyond cleanliness. Students have taken greater ownership of our space. They are more mindful about cleaning up after themselves and more respectful of shared materials and areas. These daily routines have helped build a stronger sense of responsibility and community within the classroom.\r\n\r\nThe overall environment feels more welcoming and comfortable. Students can focus on their artwork without distractions, knowing that they are working in a clean and well-maintained space. This has supported both their creativity and their well-being.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped create a classroom where students can explore, create, and learn with confidence. Before having it, I relied on reminders, redirection, and clear expectations, but phones are designed to capture attention, and even highly motivated students struggled to stay off them. This often led to repeated interruptions, off-task behavior, and a constant need for monitoring.\r\n\r\nWith the lockbox in place, the expectation is clear and consistent. Students place their phones in the lockbox at the start of class, removing the distraction entirely rather than asking them to resist it. This has eliminated the back-and-forth and created a system that feels fair and predictable for everyone.\r\n\r\nThe result has been a noticeable shift in the classroom environment. There is more focus, smoother transitions, and significantly fewer disruptions. Students are more engaged in their work and more present during instruction. The overall atmosphere feels calmer and more productive, allowing for deeper learning and more meaningful participation.\r\n\r\nThe lockbox has helped establish a sense of order and peace that other strategies could not achieve, making it a highly impactful addition to the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1767199503240,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-phones-away-creating-a-focuse/9960411/","projectTitle":"Hands On, Phones Away: Creating a Focused, Safe Art Space","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Magoffin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4039052_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1713806695716","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/magoffin"},{"teacherId":2318435,"projectId":10129456,"letterContent":"The new books and TPT gift card have made it possible to introduce a wider range of reading skills and lessons in our classroom. With these texts, we are focusing on critical thinking strategies such as analyzing theme, tracking character development, and making text-to-self and text-to-world connections. Students are also practicing close reading skills, including citing textual evidence and interpreting figurative language. The variety of genres now available, ranging from realistic fiction to informational texts, allows us to tailor lessons to different reading levels while also exposing students to new perspectives and topics they might not encounter otherwise. One book in particular, Out of My Mind, has quickly become a class favorite, students are fully engaged in Melody's story and are developing empathy while discussing her challenges and perspective.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is an active and collaborative experience. Students engage in independent reading, small group discussions, and guided instruction where we model strategies and think aloud together. Our read-aloud time has become a highlight of the day, especially with Out of My Mind, students look forward to it and are genuinely disappointed when we have to miss it. They respond to their reading through journals, discussions, and creative projects that deepen their understanding. Several students who were previously reluctant readers have shown increased enthusiasm, and it's been especially meaningful to see students connect emotionally with the characters and recommend books to one another, strengthening our classroom reading community.","fullyFundedDate":1774051929206,"projectUrl":"project/unlocking-every-voice-books-belonging/10129456/","projectTitle":"Unlocking Every Voice: Books, Belonging, and Brave Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mootry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2318435_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1475169060572","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2318435"},{"teacherId":6308228,"projectId":10142418,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom library. While these items may seem simple, they make a big difference in how our students learn and take care of their space.\r\n\r\nMany of our donors use technology at home, but in a classroom, technology is shared by many students every day. Our students use laptops daily for research, writing, assessments, and interactive learning activities. The portable keyboard vacuum cleaner helps us keep our devices clean and working properly. When keyboards are free from dust and crumbs, they function better and last longer. This protects the technology our students depend on to complete assignments and build important digital skills.\r\n\r\nThe label maker has been especially helpful in creating an organized classroom environment. Clear labels on supplies, folders, and learning stations help students become more independent. They can quickly find what they need, stay focused, and take responsibility for returning materials to the correct place. Organization reduces distractions and increases instructional time.\r\n\r\nThe tape and dispensers may seem small, but they are used daily for projects, anchor charts, and collaborative work. Having easy access to these materials allows students to focus on learning instead of waiting or sharing limited supplies.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students has been having tools that make our classroom feel more official and structured. They love seeing clearly labeled materials and enjoy helping maintain our technology with the keyboard vacuum. It builds pride and ownership in our learning space.\r\n\r\nSeveral students in particular have taken leadership roles in helping organize and care for materials. Students who thrive on structure and routine feel more confident when everything has a labeled place. Others who enjoy hands-on responsibilities feel proud when they are trusted to help clean keyboards and organize supplies. These small responsibilities build confidence and a sense of belonging.\r\n\r\nYour donation supports more than materials; it supports responsibility, independence, and a positive learning environment. Before your kindness, our ELD 9th-grade English class did not have access to a shared novel set. Because of you, my students now hold real books in their hands, books they can annotate, discuss, and truly experience together.\r\nMany people love reading, but may not always see what goes into teaching a novel. These two texts have opened the door to powerful academic and personal growth for my students. Through Of Mice and Men, students are learning to analyze character development, understand themes such as friendship and resilience, and cite textual evidence to support their thinking. \r\nWith The House on Mango Street, students are exploring vignette structure, voice, and identity. The short, poetic chapters are especially supportive for emerging bilingual students, helping them build confidence while analyzing symbolism and theme. The book invites students to reflect on their own experiences, cultures, and dreams, which makes our discussions deeply meaningful and personal.\r\nReading in our classroom is interactive and student-centered. You would see students annotating passages, participating in small group discussions, acting out scenes to build comprehension, and engaging in thoughtful writing responses. We practice reading aloud to build fluency and confidence, and students frequently turn and talk to clarify meaning together. The books have transformed our classroom into a community of readers.\r\nSeveral students who were once hesitant to participate are now among the most engaged. One student, who rarely spoke during the first weeks of school, volunteered to read aloud during The House on Mango Street and later shared a personal connection to a vignette about family and belonging. Seeing students connect emotionally and intellectually to literature has been the greatest gift.\r\nYour donation has done more than provide books—it has provided access, equity, and opportunity. You have given my students the chance to see themselves as readers, thinkers, and scholars. For many of them, this is the first time they have been able to read a full novel in an English classroom. I'm Out of Copies! Please Help My Students! Thanks to your contributions, my project was able to reach full funding. My classroom at Logan Memorial Educational Campus (LMEC) now has copy paper, cardstock, more books, and most importantly toner cartridges. At the rate I have been printing things out for my students, I am so incredibly thankful that I am going to get through the school year without worrying about having enough copies. Just today, our copy machines were out of order and I was so thankful that I had my toner cartridges to rely on for a continuum of learning in my classroom. Your support has ensured that our Montessori students have these basic essential materials for learning. \r\nMy students have begun to realize a new found freedom in their learning with the copy paper we have received. I have a student who is interested in possibly becoming a doctor when she grows up so I showed her a book about the human body for kids. With the paper we received from your donations, this student was able to create a replica of the human brain and also provided information about hair. I also had another student create the human heart and even labeled some of the parts of the heart. Both of these students are third graders with lots of ambition. I hope you are able to see pictures of their work because it is truly spectacular. \r\nThe toner for my classroom printer was another one of my biggest needs. I am now fully capable of printing the accompanying worksheets that go along with our phonics, reading, and math curriculum for our Montessori classroom. These worksheets use a lot of paper and ink. I can proudly say that ALL of my students have shown progress in reading and math - the data behind this is positive and exciting. \r\nI want to tell you that I received notification of the full funding for my project just before Christmas, and I want you to know that your contributions brought me to tears. You made my small wishes come true for my students. The basic needs of a classroom such as toner and paper absolutely go a long way for students at LMEC.
