All 31 of my reading students get to keep 3 books in their classroom for independent reading and they've shown such responsibility in reading, caring for, and returning our new books. \r\n\r\nMy students come from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences, and several students have shared how they connect to stories and characters that reflect their lives. Being able to read stories about immigration, difficult family situations, and challenging social dilemmas, has been validating to these children who have experienced or witnessed these things first hand. We used it morning morning meeting and for whole group learning time. Students love having a rug to sit on when they are learning, sharing and playing. One of our favorite moments was during a hands-on group project where students worked together and many of them asked if they can work on the rug.\r\n\r\nThe rug has been helping them focus in our morning meeting time, and most importantly, their whole group learning time.
