Our winter activities began with the students creating intricate, unique snowflakes. To add a layer of creative writing, each student wrote a poem about their snowflake. They truly thought they were toys! Even now, they still see them as something fun, which makes learning feel natural and joyful. One of my favorite moments was watching students proudly show each other the letters they created, excitedly naming the sounds and sharing their work with friends.\r\n\r\nThese materials have already made a meaningful impact, and we will continue to use them regularly during Choice Time as students build confidence and work toward mastering their letters and letter sounds. In honor of Womens History month, I used the gift card to purchase a set of reading comprehension passages that celebrate women in history. I dispay the pasage on my smart-board, and the class echo-reads the passage all together, then I call on a couple of studetns to read the passage aloud. The students have been captivated by the stories of amazing women, such as: Oprah Winfrey, and Marie Curie. They became so intensely interested, that they asked to learn more. The passages also include room for a written response from the students. These are great because it gives the students an opportunity to practice their handwriting, and spelling skills. There is still plenty of money left on the gift card, and I will use it to purchase even more quality writing worksheets.
