With your help we now have a nice starter collection of bilingual English/Spanish and Spanich books and magazines for students and teachers to use. It was a tricky order. Although items usually come in very quickly this order has taken several months to receive all items, some just arrived this past week. They have been joyfully received!\r\n\r\nThese resources are very important to our school community. Around one half of our population are binlingual language learners. These resources will help build literacy skills in a language familiar and comforting to our scholars. In turn this will help them bridge into English language skills. When students arrive from other countries it can be very comforting and reassuring to have materials in their native language. This confidence encourages them to come to school open to learning. \r\n\r\nTeachers now also have classroom sets of magazines to use with their students for informational and current event topics in Spanish classes in skill levels 1-3. Having materials of current events in Spanish class are motivating to read and build language skills. They are also nice when a reluctant reader comes in and feels overwhelmed by the lengths of books. \r\n\r\nWhen teachers bring their classes to the library, the Spanish collection is always one of the first things we point out. They have immediately left the shelves and are boosting circulation in the library and boosting the language skills of our scholars. Thank you for bringing joy and knowledge to our newcomer community during challenging times. I am new to teaching English as a Second Language and my learners are all at different levels. Your donation got vocabulary flashcards into their hands to help them develop larger understanding of the English language. These cards were so awesome! \r\n\r\nThis has been one of the most challenging teaching jobs I have ever had. Your support is easing a lot of tension I have been taking on. My students and I have been having a lot of fun. We took the cards and have made up games and it has been a wonderful experience watching the kids learn and grow. Students have learned new words. Preposition cards were really fun to see the kids get into. Our language is crazy and it is funny to experience it through their eyes. \r\n\r\nPlease continue supporting teachers. It has had a key impact on my students. My school has a \"Drop Everything and Read\" program where each student must read for 20 minutes in class. This brings a lot of new students to the library who say they don't like to read. Having new, relevant, and critically acclaimed graphic novel titles helps bridge this reluctant reader to enjoying reading. \r\n\r\nThe other segment of students who enjoy graphic novels are my English language learners as well as avid readers. Having visually rich text empowers students to help decode the text and comprehend the story as they learn how to read English. Graphic novels are also a lot of fun, and all of my avid readers enjoy having new graphic novels on hand to take home with them. \r\n\r\nMy students ask me all the time \"Miss do you have any new books?\" It was so nice to start the school year with a large collection for them to choose from. They get SO excited when new titles arrive. In addition to my reluctant readers I also have students who check out boks on a daily basis. This group of students especially love graphic novels and manga. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for bringing the love of reading to my reluctant and avid readers and my English language learners.
