They take great advantage of the writing materials, supplies like folders and pencils, and the snacks that they can't seem to get enough of. Because of the nature of Title 1 school and the lack of funding that is provided, students at times find it difficult to get the supplies and materials that they need. This makes a great difference. One specific project we do is include a writing prompt every Wednesday before the start of the lesson, and the prompt will relate to mindfulness and general wellness, improving their writing skills and emotional intelligence as these high schoolers transition into adulthood. \r\n\tThe initial reaction of the students was complete awe of the amount of materials that were available, and the snacks that I was able to offer. My students, specifically those with special services and IEPs, now know where they can get access to the materials and snacks that they need. The next steps for my students in the current classroom lesson is to develop coping skills, social/emotional/behavioral skills, and strategies that they can use, specifically those with learning disabilities, ADHD, Autism, and etc. At the end of the day, I am working to have my student in SPED to have a smooth transition to adulthood and graduation.","fullyFundedDate":1766110507694,"projectUrl":"project/pathway-to-their-success/9758047/","projectTitle":"Pathway To Their Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Cacho","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10278655"},{"teacherId":10273890,"projectId":9745938,"letterContent":"My students were thrilled that we received so many packages they could open, and I was thrilled at how much support we'd received — and how fast! Your generosity let me focus on meeting the learning needs of my students, by exploring and practicing core math concepts. With a range of mild disabilities, they are working hard on the basics as they build their foundations for success later in high school. \r\nWe used the large-format graph paper for a project where, after calculating the area of our classroom and noting the size and placement of windows and doors, students worked in small groups to design two-bedroom, one-bath apartments that could fill the same space. (Two students with significant visual impairment also used the paper for routine graphing practice.)\r\nWe used the static sheets to imagine and calculate table options and costs for a big party, and to list the ingredients for popcorn balls we made at the holidays (see the photo). And we used the printer/copy paper every single day, for everything from division bingo to problem solving strategies; we even folded and tore up some of it to make fractions more tangible (looking at half a page, then one third of a page, then one sixth, we saw how the pieces got smaller as the denominator grew).","fullyFundedDate":1758844194377,"projectUrl":"project/special-ops-math-mindset/9745938/","projectTitle":"Special Ops: Math Mindset","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Impellizzeri","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10273890"},{"teacherId":4665701,"projectId":8022599,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our girls junior varsity high school soccer team at Lincoln High School! Students were enthusiastic and excited to try a new art form, embroidery. Many students had seen the art form in their homes and on their clothing but had never tried it before. The project was challenging and required a lot of patience as each stitch needed to be done with care and precision, it is not an art form that can be rushed or mistakes easily covered up. The students were very excited to choose their specific colors and I was so grateful to have all the variety of colors to choose from. They did not have to limit their ideas due to a lack of colors and choices thanks to this campaign. We also had plenty of needles as you can imagine small needles went missing here and there. Students could always get a new one and use various tools to work with the small needled and thread especially the threader tool was a hit for those having trouble threading the embroidery floss into the needs.
