I am able to model addition word problems where there is a missing part. The stackers helps them build the equation for the word problem then allows them to confirm their models based on my questions and the context of the word problems. Recently, my first graders were able to use the stackers to solve addition joining word problems. \r\n\r\nWhen they modeled the two numbers for the problem, they are able to count the ridges on the side of the stackers to help them with their answers. Some students still struggle with counting on. Visually seeing the number and counting the ridges on the side of the second number has increased their number sense. As we move from one-to-one counting and use counting on, this helps my students understand and practice using efficient strategies.\r\n\r\nThe stackers are the first math tools my students grab. They were very excited when we received them and they love building number towers with them. They will continue to use the stackers to strengthen their addition and subtraction skills and learn skills like multiplication.","fullyFundedDate":1761600682865,"projectUrl":"project/critical-thinking-with-foam-numbers/9463700/","projectTitle":"Critical Thinking With Foam Numbers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Taylor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3020477_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1483386349455","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3020477"},{"teacherId":3020477,"projectId":9068248,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of a new bookshelf to our classroom! It's more than just a piece of furniture—it's become a centerpiece of our learning environment and a spark for student engagement.\r\n\r\nSince its arrival, we've been using the bookshelf to organize and showcase our classroom library in a way that's inviting and easy to navigate. It has completely transformed how students interact with books. During our recent Fraction Unit, students explored different books each week and used the bookshelf to find and share the books they read with classmates. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the bookshelf, their reactions were priceless. Several of them literally gasped and rushed over to see which books were on display. One student said, \"It looks like a real library now!\" That sense of pride and excitement has carried into our daily routines, with students now taking ownership of organizing the books on the shelf.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're working on book talks, where students choose a favorite book and prepare a short presentation to recommend it to the class. The bookshelf has made it easier for students to browse and discover hidden gems they might have overlooked before. Next, we'll be launching a student-led \"Book of the Week\" spotlight, where each week a different student selects a book to feature and explains why others should read it.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. Your support has added a lasting and meaningful resource to our classroom—and it's inspiring a love for reading that will keep growing.","fullyFundedDate":1738095140565,"projectUrl":"project/a-shelf-is-a-place-to-rest-a-book/9068248/","projectTitle":"A Shelf Is a Place To Rest a Book","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Taylor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3020477_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1483386349455","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3020477"},{"teacherId":3020477,"projectId":9042480,"letterContent":"On behalf of my students and myself, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for the generous donation of headphones to our classroom. This technology has already made a meaningful difference in the way my students engage with their learning and I am truly grateful.\r\n\r\nThe headphones have become an essential tool in our daily instruction. They help create a more focused, individualized learning environment, especially during math intervention activities. Students are now able to listen to directions and engage with interactive lessons without distractions. This has opened up new possibilities for learning and has improved both comprehension and retention.\r\n\r\nSome of our quieter and more reserved students, who might have struggled to participate in group discussions, have especially embraced this technology. The headphones have given them a voice—literally and figuratively—by allowing them to engage in lessons. \r\n\r\nThank you once again for supporting our classroom. Your generosity has had a real impact, and I'm excited for all the ways this technology will continue to enhance my students learning.","fullyFundedDate":1737086672137,"projectUrl":"project/headphones-for-focused-learning-empower/9042480/","projectTitle":"Headphones for Focused Learning: Empowering Students to Excel!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Taylor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3020477_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1483386349455","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3020477"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_64956","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":533,"numTeachers":50,"percentFrplEligible":87,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":90,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":57.5,"schoolId":64956,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lewisdale Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lewisdale Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/prince-george-s-county-public-schools/lewisdale-elementary-school/64956"}
