You did that.\r\nIt isn't uncommon for another staff member to bring a student in from a different class to visit the tortoises as a break and/or reward. The basket of fidgets is a hit in the classroom. Students know they can use one throughout the day to help them focus on their work. After they get their items put away for the morning, the majority of students choose a fidget before starting with their morning work. \r\nIt has been sweet to see the students share with one another or encourage each other to try a different one because it is helpful for them. A few have broken (due to quality) and the concern when they come to tell me is high. They are taking pride in these items. What an amazing gift for our 3rd grade classroom. I wish you could have been in the classroom when we unboxed the books. The students were thrilled and shocked that the books they wanted were going to be part of their classroom library. \r\nStudents have book boxes that they use to keep books they are reading, and the new books have quickly filled those boxes. I have overheard conversations of students asking to read the book after the current student is done reading it. \r\nHaving books like these in the classroom is motivating for all students to read more. They are engaged and have more options. Know you have made a difference and that these books will be enjoyed for many years to come. You have given me the opportunity to give students experiences with activities I wouldn't normally be able to provide.\r\nWe have used the watercolor paper, and it is lovely to have paper that doesn't tear easily when wet. One of the students commented that they felt like a real artist because the paper was nice.\r\nAt the end of the year, we do a motion and force activity. Each student will be given a wooden car to decorate as their own and will be used throughout the unit to explore and design ways to make their car go further and faster. By having their own car, they will feel ownership.
