Many of our young adults have never had a personalized celebration at school before, and receiving a balloon and a handwritten card just for them has created moments of joy that are clearly unforgettable. Smiles are bigger, birthdays are meaningful, and every student now has a moment where the classroom stops just to honor them.\r\n\r\nThese balloons and cards have become more than decorations; they are symbols of belonging. When students walk in and see a balloon waiting at their seat, their faces light up, their peers cheer for them, and they feel important in a way that carries into their entire day. The anticipation leading up to birthdays has strengthened the classroom community as students now look forward not only to being celebrated themselves, but to celebrating others with kindness.\r\n\r\nThis project has also positively impacted student social-emotional growth. Students are learning to express appreciation, to write thoughtful birthday messages, and to participate in joyful moments that build peer connections. For our students with disabilities, opportunities like this help strengthen communication skills, build confidence in social interactions, and promote empathy. They are beginning to recognize that their presence matters, that they are part of a community that cares about them.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, I was able to create a tradition we will carry year after year. Instead of birthdays passing quietly or unnoticed, we now pause to acknowledge achievements, personal growth, and individuality. The materials you provided allowed me to build rituals around celebration, gratitude, and kindness, things that are just as important as academics in the lives of growing young adults.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us bring joy, recognition, and warmth into our classroom. A balloon and a card may seem small, but to my students, they mean they matter, and that is a priceless gift.","fullyFundedDate":1763474776785,"projectUrl":"project/birthday-balloons-and-cards-to-spread-jo/9784899/","projectTitle":"Birthday Balloons and Cards to Spread Joy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fagundes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8021093_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759947006781","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8021093"},{"teacherId":8021093,"projectId":9771637,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students began the year with tools that set them up for organization, pride, and academic confidence. Something as simple as having a backpack with their own supplies made a world of difference. For many, this was the first time they had materials that were new, durable, and truly their own. It gave them a sense of responsibility and belonging that instantly changed the way they engaged in the classroom.\r\n\r\nThe backpacks, pencil pouches, and folders funded through this project helped students stay organized across multiple classes, track homework independently, and store personal learning tools safely. Instead of students feeling embarrassed about missing supplies or being unable to complete work because they had nothing to write with, they now come prepared and ready to participate. Daily routines run more smoothly, transitions are faster, and students take ownership of their progress because they have exactly what they need to succeed.\r\n\r\nThe impact on student learning has been both academic and emotional. Students are taking more initiative, turning in assignments with greater consistency, and showing pride in their work. For young adults with disabilities, organization is a key life skill, and having supplies designed to support structure and independence has strengthened that skill in a meaningful way. I watched confidence grow; the simple act of unzipping a pencil pouch to begin work became a signal that they were ready, capable, and in control of their own learning.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, these materials allowed me to spend more time on instruction rather than managing supply shortages or tracking down spare materials. I was able to teach organization systems instead of improvising daily solutions. We created routines for filing papers, color-coding subjects, and maintaining tidy backpacks, habits that transfer to real-world settings, future workplaces, and daily adult living.\r\n\r\nThis project did more than fund school supplies. It provided dignity, readiness, and opportunity. You helped remove barriers and replace them with tools that empower students to show up prepared, engaged, and proud of who they are as learners.\r\n\r\nThank you for choosing to invest in them. You made a meaningful difference that will last well beyond this school year.","fullyFundedDate":1763474765469,"projectUrl":"project/backpacks-pencil-pouches-folders-set/9771637/","projectTitle":"Backpacks, Pencil Pouches & Folders: Setting Students Up for Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fagundes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8021093_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759947006781","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8021093"},{"teacherId":8021093,"projectId":9771810,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our student-run Tiger Café has officially transformed into the STEM Café Lab, a space where young adults with disabilities can experiment, analyze, build confidence, and practice real workplace skills using real technology. Your support did far more than provide materials. You opened a door to opportunity, independence, and future employment.\r\n\r\nWith the digital scales, thermometers, water-testing kits, barcode scanners, and sustainability tools that you helped fund, students are now gathering real-world data and using it to improve how our café operates. They are testing brewing temperatures to perfect a cup of coffee, comparing waste before and after recipe adjustments, scanning products to track ingredients and inventory, and evaluating energy use to make environmentally responsible decisions. What used to be everyday café tasks are now hands-on STEM investigations.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, students are beginning to see themselves differently.\r\n\r\nThey are charting data, discussing solutions, evaluating results, and presenting their findings like true scientists and professionals. They are discovering that their ideas matter, their thinking is valued, and the workplace is a place where they can succeed. The pride in their faces when they solve a problem or see improvement in their data is the very impact your donation created.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, our STEM Café Lab is not just a classroom resource; it is a launchpad for career readiness in food science, sustainability, and hospitality. Students are building transferable skills, increasing independence, and developing a belief in their own capability that will follow them far beyond our campus.\r\n\r\nYour donation changed the way our students learn, think, and dream about their future.
