From the very first chapters, they were completely engaged. Reading quickly became something they looked forward to each day, and our classroom was filled with conversations, predictions, and excitement about what would happen next. Many of my students, including some who don't always enjoy reading, became invested in the story and eagerly participated in discussions. Ending the school year by watching the movie adaptation together was the perfect celebration of all the hard work they had put into reading the novel.\r\n\r\nWhile my students loved the story itself, the book also opened the door to so many valuable learning experiences. We explored ethical questions through science debates, created timelines to track the complex events of the novel, and compared astrophage to real bacteria to better understand microbiology and scientific thinking. We also examined different communication styles as the characters learned to understand one another, and compared Rocky's unique biology to human biology, which led to fascinating conversations about adaptation, evolution, and what life might look like beyond Earth. These activities encouraged critical thinking, collaboration, and curiosity while helping students make meaningful connections across science, literature, and communication.\r\n\r\nThank you for making these experiences possible. Because of your generosity, my students didn't just read a novel—they immersed themselves in a story that sparked imagination, scientific curiosity, and thoughtful discussion.
