I will forever remember the beautiful view outside the classroom window. Each year I treat my students as family. With all the gardening tools and lessons, my class became a stronger family. My parents were talking to each other about how their children would help at home with the weeding and watering. It became one big family instead of everyone being separated. During one of my conferences a parent told me how their son never wanted to help with the gardening before, but after we started growing avocado plant in class, he insisted on doing it at home to. Now they had ten avocado pits beginning to sprout. She was smiling while telling me their story, it was such a great feeling hearing this. \r\n Working on the garden was a great learning experience for the class. Learning skills like working together, language skills, and social emotional skills. Which is the biggest area to work on while they are young. The children were able to expand their vocabulary skill with new garden terms, like turning the soil, observation, spade, harvest, and sprouts. Just to list a few. They even learned ways to include math skills like rote count, one to one correspondence and comparing. When the class worked with the wet seeds they also were learning about the different textures. The class grew many different vegetables. Onions that they turned into a garlic noodle dish, they shared it with the principal, he said it tasted great. Grew radishes, that one was a 50/50 review even with ranch.lol They made a lettuce smoothies out of the two different lettuces they grew. They were so yummy, the kids made some for their parents to try.\r\n The most valuable thing I got out of the donations was looking out my class window and seeing the families talking to each other. At first the parents would just work with their own child, but as the garden started to sprout, the parents were laughing and talking with each other. Growing the garden brought them all together, making a great big, amazing family. Being open I do not have a garden at home, but 100% believe that children should learn how to dig in the soil and get dirty. Growing something with your own hands is like growing your child, as a teacher, we have the responsibility to help grow the most beautiful human beings in this world. From my whole heart THANK YOU for all the donations. Having another kind of instrument in my classroom for students to play is just another fun adventure they get to experience. \r\nAlong with musical performance, of course, the students also receive the added benefits of improving their hand/eye coordination, aural skills, as well as the ability to work with others and perform as a group. We are so grateful for all of our new supplies and have already began adding them to our projects. My first graders experimented with chalk pastels to create heart collages for Valentine's Day! My third graders have completed multi-medium organic shape lava lamps to go with our shape unit. They used our new oil pastels, and were beyond excited to not have to use our old broken ones! \r\n\r\nAlthough I don't have completed projects with the liquid watercolor/ watercolor paper yet, I am so excited to have my 4th and 5th graders create with a new medium. I was able to get a small group of 5th graders to test out the supplies for an upcoming project we will begin in March, and they loved how their practice pieces turned out! I have not gotten to use all of our new materials with every grade level yet, but the one's I have shared our new resources with have been so excited. It is a great feeling getting to use new supplies that haven't been used for multiple years in a row. My students are very grateful and can't wait to begin using all of our new supplies on upcoming projects! \r\n\r\nThroughout the rest of the year, we are going to continue our \"Elements of Art\" units, along with artist studies, learning about their styles as artists, mediums they use, and making some of our own artwork using similar mediums to create like those artists. I can't wait to incorporate all of these new supplies to create beautiful student work. Thank you again for your support and contribution to our art classroom. The students were immediately drawn to the bright colors and unique shapes of the Magnetic Tiles. One special moment was during our \"Build a Community\" week, when students collaborated in small groups to construct buildings and homes using the magnetic tiles. Peer models and students receiving special education services worked side-by-side, sharing ideas, practicing turn-taking, and using descriptive language to explain their creations. The Dinosaur Alphabet Match Game were also big hits during literacy centers, helping students develop fine motor skills and letter recognition in a playful, engaging way.\r\n\r\nSeveral students immediately began sorting and connecting the magnetic tiles, while others gravitated toward the alphabet games, eagerly matching uppercase and lowercase letters. Their natural enthusiasm turned into meaningful learning through structured play. Moving forward, we plan to integrate these tools into an ongoing STEM and literacy unit where students will continue exploring shapes, letters, and collaborative building.
