The new resources are now an essential part of our daily routine. Students use the calming tools during transitions, independent work time, and whenever they need a moment to regulate their emotions. One especially meaningful moment was watching a student independently choose a calming strategy from the space to reset before rejoining the group—something that was very difficult for them before.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were immediately drawn to the space. They explored it with curiosity and excitement, and many commented on how \"peaceful\" and \"cozy\" it felt. The calm corner has quickly become a safe, trusted place where students feel supported. It has helped reduce disruptions, encouraged emotional awareness, and taught students that it's okay to pause and take care of themselves.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our next steps include explicitly teaching mindfulness strategies, emotional vocabulary, and self-regulation skills that students can use both in and out of the classroom. We are currently working on identifying emotions and choosing appropriate coping tools, and this space allows students to practice these skills in real, meaningful ways. Thank you for giving our students the gift of calm, confidence, and emotional growth.","fullyFundedDate":1746786183680,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-calm-and-mindful-space-for-my/9299922/","projectTitle":"Creating a Calm and Mindful Space for My Kindergarteners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Justine","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9181213_orig.jpg?crop=2784,2784,x0,y371&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745936057943","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9181213"},{"teacherId":9181213,"projectId":9297332,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our kindergarten classroom now has access to developmental play tools that are used daily during learning centers, small-group activities, and choice time. One of our favorite moments has been watching students collaborate to build structures, sort objects by size and color, and create imaginative scenarios while explaining their thinking to peers.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, their excitement was immediate. They were eager to explore, carefully chose activities, and proudly shared their creations with classmates and teachers. Many students who are typically hesitant to participate became more confident and engaged because the tools feel playful, accessible, and inviting. The materials have helped create a calm, purposeful learning environment where students feel successful and motivated.\r\n\r\nBy supporting this project, you gave our students the opportunity to learn through play in meaningful ways. They were eager to explore, asked thoughtful questions, and couldn't wait to start learning. Many students said, \"This looks like a real school!\", which was exactly the goal. The new setup helped them feel proud of their classroom and more motivated to engage in learning.\r\n\r\nBy supporting this project, you became a part of our classroom community. Living in Oklahoma, where the weather can be unpredictable, we often have days when outdoor recess isn't an option. Because of your support, indoor recess has become a time of creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking rather than just screen time.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new games, their excitement was contagious! Instead of asking to watch a movie or play on a computer, they eagerly explored the different games, strategizing over chess, collaborating on LEGO creations, and laughing together over classic board games. These materials have encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and social interaction in a way that simply wasn't happening before. It's been amazing to watch students who wouldn't normally work together find common ground through play.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we plan to incorporate these games into our learning beyond just recess. We're using strategy games to reinforce critical thinking skills in math and LEGOs for hands-on STEM activities.
