Building houses, stairs, rocket ships, and even walkie talkies--these materials are open-ended so the sjy is the limit for my creative kiddos! Many of my students learn best through hands-on experiences, and these resources have helped bring geography to life in a way that worksheets alone cannot. With our new atlas, volcano kit, map puzzles, and blow-up globe, students are able to explore geography in an interactive and meaningful way. Instead of only talking about maps, landforms, and communities, they can now see, touch, and experience these concepts firsthand, which has helped strengthen their vocabulary, curiosity, and understanding of the world around them.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students has been using the hands-on materials during our lessons. They love spinning the globe to locate places we discuss, working together to solve map puzzles, and using the atlas to compare different regions of the world. The volcano kit has been especially exciting because it helps students understand landforms in a memorable and engaging way. These tools have made our social studies block much more interactive, and even students who are usually quieter have become eager to participate and ask questions.\r\n\r\nSeveral of my students, especially my English language learners and students who benefit from visual supports, have really connected with these new materials. Having concrete, visual tools helps them better understand concepts that can otherwise feel abstract. I've seen students become more confident during discussions and more excited to make connections between our classroom lessons and their own families, cultures, and communities. These materials have helped make geography meaningful, accessible, and joyful for all of my students.","fullyFundedDate":1778009783323,"projectUrl":"project/where-in-the-world-are-we/10115082/","projectTitle":"Where in the World Are We?","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Isa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9286957_orig.jpg?crop=2730,2730,x0,y828&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1771721544287","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9286957"},{"teacherId":7846632,"projectId":9973307,"letterContent":"Our space-themed DonorsChoose project created an unforgettable celebration for our students at the end of our unit on space. Students were especially excited to try astronaut freeze-dried ice cream, which helped them make real-world connections to life in space. The star projector created a calm and magical atmosphere that helped students feel like they were traveling through the night sky together.\r\n\r\nThis celebration was more than just a party—it was a meaningful learning experience that strengthened student engagement, curiosity, and excitement about science. We use these new resources daily to support communication, emotional regulation, and hands-on learning in ways that meet each student where they are. One meaningful moment happened during a structured small-group activity, when students used the materials to practice turn-taking and expressing their needs. With the material, support and sensory tools, even students who typically struggle to participate were able to stay engaged for a longer span. It was powerful to see them connect with one another, build independence, and experience success in a way that feels accessible and supportive.\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their reactions were immediate and genuine smiles, excitement, and a sense of comfort filled the room. Some students were drawn right away to the sensory elements like the house that is used as a connect corner for them to help regulate and rejoin the class, while others carefully explored at their own pace, showing curiosity and interest. For many of them, these tools provided a sense of calm and security that helped reduce anxiety and increase focus. Since then, they look forward to using these resources every day, and it has become a meaningful part of our routine.
