The zen sand garden is a soothing activity the kids love when they are talking about their anxiety. They use the various fidgets that you gifted them as well. The weighted lap blanket is useful for helping to regulate their breathing and emotions when they are struggling. \r\n\r\nThere are quite a few students who have experienced childhood trauma. Research shows that our basic needs have to be met before we can heal. Having snacks helps to meet some of the needs of these students. When the kids are hungry they stop by my office to get a snack. The items I ordered were all helpful and appreciated by myself and the students in our school. Creating a warm, welcoming, and relaxing atmosphere for my students is an integral part of the counseling process, and with your help, I was able to do this. \r\n The snacks that you generously gifted are such a hit with my students and are often needed as some of them have financial difficulties at home that limit their food availability. They are often so grateful for a little treat as well. I have a little Hersey's kiss dispenser and the chocolate kisses bring comfort to students when they are sharing emotional heartache. You can see on the bookshelf I also run my diffuser with essential oils, and for the tiny space we have, it always smells and looks inviting. \r\n The fidgets, stickers, and sensory items also have been helpful, as I can give them away to students after a session and they can work on their coping skills, or have a reminder of ways to handle their stress. The weighted Kowala has been very loved, as he has comforted many students through emotional regulation and times of distress (and so have the tissues which I always have to purchase from my own funds). \r\n I am humbled by the generosity and kindness you have shown to our students and I thank you again for caring so much for others and their emotional health, and wanting our students to have a positive experience in school!","fullyFundedDate":1727654232473,"projectUrl":"project/teen-mental-health-social-work-office/8834245/","projectTitle":"Teen Mental Health Social Work Office!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Pitirri","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9782081"},{"teacherId":9825477,"projectId":8918387,"letterContent":"When I first put in to receive donations for my project, \"Alternative Program Helping Students' Mental Health,\" I was unsure of what to expect. I was overwhelmed that within minutes of submitting my projects I already had people offering to help support my project. Still not sure what was actually going to happen, I was pleasantly surprised when several days later I received a slip in my mailbox notifying me I had a package waiting for me. I was so grateful to see that the package was the fidget items I had ordered for my project. I took the package home to go through the boxes and see what exactly was in them. As I looked through the items my 8-year-old daughter was excited to play with the different fidget items. Seeing how happy she was with the different items I couldn't wait to take the package back to school and show my students.\r\n\r\nI organized this project to help my students' mental health and give them something to do while waiting to leave for my class or if they needed the fidget items while sitting in other classes. Upon taking the boxes upstairs to the LAP Program I walked around to each of the classrooms offering the teachers to take any of the items out to leave in their classrooms. Any of the items that were not taken by the classroom teachers I left to the programs social worker to use while she was meeting with students. Once the students realized what I had in the boxes they immediately came over to me with excitement to look through them. They were overjoyed with the different fidget items that they could use. There was a squishy orbeez ball that one particular student asked if that could be set to the side for her and her only to use. There was another student who asked to keep 2 of the sensory rings that were in the box. I set the fidget clicker to the side for one of the boys in the program. I had the fidget items upstairs with the LAP Program for less than 5 minutes and I was already seeing a positive impact it made on my students. The students were grateful when I explained that all the fidget items were for them to use and they would be staying up with the program. The smiles I saw on their faces made me realize I did the right thing by putting in for this project. \r\n\r\nKnowing that each of the classrooms had fidget items, it allowed students to be able to use the fidgets at any time throughout the school day. It brings a smile to my face when I walk into a classroom and see students using a fidget spinner or any of the various pop-its. One of the items was a puzzle ball. During class one of the boys took the puzzle ball apart and he could not figure out how it went back together. To my surprise a different group of students worked together and figured out how the puzzle ball went back together. Not only did these fidget items help with my students mental health, it also helped bring students together.\r\n\r\nI am very grateful that I heard about this program and was able to do this project for my students. The fidget items that I received can be used by students I currently have and students that I will have in future years. I have now learned that these items can help students mentally as well as bring students together to complete a fidget task. I myself have used the fidget rings when I get a little overwhelmed. I actually have one of the pop-its as a keychain on my backpack that I keep with me at all times.","fullyFundedDate":1730735737445,"projectUrl":"project/alternative-program-helping-students-me/8918387/","projectTitle":"Alternative Program Helping Students' Mental Health","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Schunke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9825477"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_21903","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1657,"numTeachers":130,"percentFrplEligible":27,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":89,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.0,"schoolId":21903,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lancaster High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lancaster High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/lancaster-central-school-district/lancaster-high-school/21903"}
