While many of our donors are passionate readers, teaching reading involves helping students build specific skills—and these texts support that work beautifully. Students are practicing comprehension strategies like making predictions, asking questions, identifying themes, and using evidence from the text to support their thinking. The variety of genres and topics also helps students expand their vocabulary and learn how different types of texts are structured, from stories to informational books.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and joyful. You'll see students reading independently, talking about books with partners, and sharing their thinking during group discussions. These books have sparked curiosity and confidence—students are more willing to take risks, try challenging texts, and talk about what they read because they're genuinely interested in the stories and topics.\r\n\r\nSome students have connected with these books in especially meaningful ways. A few reluctant readers now rush to grab a book they're excited about and proudly share what they've read. Other students who already loved reading are diving deeper—recommending books to classmates, rereading favorites, and making thoughtful connections. These resources have become a valuable part of our daily math instruction, especially during small group time. Students are using the Number Blocks to build, count, compose, and decompose numbers while working through hands-on math tasks. One special moment was watching students work together to represent numbers in multiple ways, explain their thinking to peers, and confidently check their own work using the blocks as a visual support.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the Number Blocks, their excitement was immediate. They were eager to explore, stack, and create with them, and many students who previously felt unsure during math were instantly more engaged. The blocks have helped make abstract math concepts more concrete, allowing students to physically see and feel number relationships, place value, and early operations. As a result, students are more confident, focused, and willing to take risks during math lessons.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our next steps include using the Number Blocks to deepen understanding of number comparisons, addition and subtraction strategies, and problem-solving skills. Students will continue to work in small groups, using these materials to explain their thinking, justify answers, and build a strong foundation in math. Your support has given our students meaningful learning opportunities and has made math more engaging, accessible, and enjoyable. Your support has made an immediate and meaningful difference in the daily lives of our students, and I am so grateful for your belief in their learning and growth.\r\n\r\nBefore these new desks arrived, our classroom furniture had seen many years of use. While our students were enthusiastic and eager to learn, the worn and mismatched desks often made it difficult for them to sit comfortably, focus on their work, and feel proud of their learning space. Because of you, that has completely changed. The moment the new desks were set up, the room felt brighter, more organized, and more welcoming. The students' faces lit up with excitement as they walked in and saw a classroom that truly felt designed just for them.\r\n\r\nThe impact of these new desks goes far beyond appearances. Kindergarteners are learning foundational skills such as writing, drawing, cutting, and collaborating with classmates. Having desks that are the right size, sturdy, and clean allows students to focus on learning rather than adjusting their seating or struggling with limited workspace. These desks support proper posture, give each child a clear personal space, and help create a calm, structured environment where young learners can thrive.\r\n\r\nI have already noticed positive changes in the classroom. Students are more focused during lessons, transitions are smoother, and there is a renewed sense of pride in our shared space. Several students have commented on how much they love their \"new desks,\" and they take greater care in keeping them tidy and organized. This sense of ownership helps teach responsibility and respect for their learning environment—important lessons that extend well beyond kindergarten.\r\n\r\nYour generosity also sends a powerful message to our students: that their education matters and that there are people in the community who care about their success. For many of these children, this may be one of the first times they see how kindness and support from others can create positive change. That lesson alone is priceless.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, I am deeply appreciative of the way your donation has strengthened our classroom. You have helped create a space where students feel comfortable, confident, and ready to learn each day. These desks will serve many classes of kindergarteners for years to come, making your impact long-lasting and far-reaching.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students, our classroom, and our future. Your generosity has truly made a difference, and we are incredibly grateful for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1764676853234,"projectUrl":"project/new-seating-for-kindergarten-community/9690125/","projectTitle":"New Seating for Kindergarten Community","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Zive","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9061020_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1685364057831","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9061020"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40202","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":432,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":17,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":58,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"14.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":78.7,"schoolId":40202,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lakeview Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lakeview Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/washington-elementary-school-district/lakeview-elementary-school/40202"}
