Your donation has helped to purchase the bookshelves that were listed in the project. With a grant last year, our school was able to purchase a bunch of new books that would appeal to our younger readers.\r\n\r\nThe spinning bookshelf is set up with these books right next to the play area. The sliding bookshelves are in various areas around the room. With the appeal of these fun books, we are hoping that students will want to read for fun to better understand the pictures they are also seeing. This in turn will hopefully increase reading learning and achievement. \r\n\r\nI received the bookshelves before school started and took time to assemble them (and fill them up with books). The students saw these as they first walked into the classroom and loved them. They are delighted!\r\n\r\nThank you so much for supporting our reading goals! The carpet I was able to purchase through Donors Choose has provided my students with a new, clean area (in an old classroom) to gather together. We use this floor space every day.\r\n\r\nIn this space, we gather for weekly classroom meetings to set weekly academic goals, work through social issues and concerns, and review the positives of each day. Our reading curriculum requires read-aloud time. Students often gather here for the read aloud or to preview vocabulary and key ideas of the text so that we improve comprehension and understanding while honing listening skills. Students also use the new carpet area for small group work and partner reading.\r\n\r\nThe carpet area really is a primary focal point of the room.
