The Pre-Kindergarten students were quite excited to sit and work on their own circle on their new rug. I occasionally see them moving their hands across the rug to feel the softnesses of the rug as they are waiting to participate in our large group activities. \r\n The children are very protective of their own space and become upset when someone is sitting in their space and will inform me if someone is sitting in the wrong circle. They can easily identify who is absent by the empty circle on the rug. I smile when I enter into the classroom every morning and breathe in the new carpet scent that still filters in the room. \r\n When it was suggested by my assistant to try and submit my request for funding of our project, I did not believe that it would be funded. Whether it's during testing, class assignments in their Chromebooks, Read Aloud time, or a STEM project, students resort to the carpet for comfort and a community environment. Working on the carpet is now their preferred seating. \r\n\r\nThe impact has been tremendous. I can also attribute a boost in critical thinking to the comfort students feel when strategizing during collaborative discussions. They immediately gravitated toward the books, eager to dive into new stories during DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time. Having fresh notebooks for reading and writing has also been a big hit—they love personalizing them and using them to jot down their thoughts, reflections, and creative ideas.\r\n\r\nThe writing blocks have been a great addition to our stations, providing engaging ways for students to practice their skills in a hands-on way. We also use the laminating pouches to create durable station materials that students can use repeatedly, ensuring that activities remain engaging and long-lasting. The magnetic dots have been especially useful for building sentences and displaying student numbers, making our classroom more interactive and organized.\r\n\r\nFor whole-group instruction, the easel paper allows us to work together on lessons, brainstorm ideas, and create anchor charts that support learning. The cleaning supplies have been a huge help, especially during cold and flu season, ensuring that we maintain a healthy and comfortable learning environment. The pencils, of course, are a necessity for daily classwork, and my students appreciate always having them readily available.\r\n\r\nWe also use the printer paper for a variety of classroom activities, from printing out student work and assignments to creating engaging learning materials. Having a steady supply of paper makes it easier for students to access important resources and showcase their learning in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, my students are starting a writing project where they will use their notebooks to draft and refine personal narratives. These resources have truly made a difference in our daily learning, making activities more engaging and accessible for all students.
