Of course, many of them immediately recognized Jenga and were eager to play. What they did not realize was that I had turned the blocks into a fun learning activity. I wrote Fry words on the blocks, so each time a student pulls a block, they must first read the word and then spell it correctly before continuing the game. The students love the challenge because they are practicing important reading and spelling skills while playing with their classmates.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments has been watching students encourage one another as they sound out, read, and spell the words. Instead of practicing the words only through worksheets or flashcards, students are able to interact with them in a hands-on and engaging way. The excitement of trying not to knock down the tower keeps them motivated to participate!\r\n\r\nThe magnetic blocks and building bricks have also provided opportunities for students to create, problem-solve, communicate, and work together. Students are learning that play can also involve creativity, perseverance, and teamwork.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue increasing the challenge of our Jenga literacy activities as students become stronger readers and spellers. As they master their current words, I can introduce more challenging words and vocabulary that connect to what we are learning in class. I also plan to continue finding ways to use our building materials for hands-on challenges that require students to plan, build, revise, and collaborate.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students resources that make learning exciting. They immediately wanted to try the desks and see what it was like to work while standing. Having the option to sit or stand has given students another way to find a workspace where they feel comfortable, focused, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the standing desks throughout the school day, especially during independent reading, writing, and math. Students can choose a workspace that helps them stay focused and productive. The privacy folders have also been very helpful during independent work and assessments. They give students their own personal working space and help reduce distractions so they can concentrate and show what they know.\r\n\r\nOne moment that stood out was seeing students independently choose the standing desks when they knew they needed a different place to focus. Instead of viewing the desks as simply something new and exciting, they are beginning to understand that different learning spaces can help them be successful.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue teaching students how to make responsible choices about the learning environment that works best for them. As we move into more challenging reading, writing, and math lessons, these resources will continue to give students flexible spaces to work independently, persevere through challenges, and take ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for supporting our classroom.
