We can all fit!\" exclaimed one of my students. Now the students can all sit comfortably on the rug and view the lessons on screen in front of them. No more tripping on the frayed edges of the old rug, or trying to find a space on the rug where they can see the screen.\r\nThis year we started book clubs. Each of my students chose a book to read with a few other students. Now that we have a new rug, three small groups of students can read on the rug, grab a pillow and discuss their book at the same time.The rug is the perfect size for the three groups to be separate enough and not disturb the other book clubs. Every morning my students can't wait when it's their turn to read and enjoy on the rug. The Calm Corner has provided them with a designated space where they can step away from the hustle and bustle of the classroom to reset emotionally and mentally. Many of my students struggle with managing big emotions, and having this space has helped them learn how to self-regulate in a safe, supportive environment.\r\n\r\nThe impact is evident in how my students are better able to focus on their learning after spending time in the Calm Corner. They are more engaged, more mindful of their classmates, and overall more confident in navigating their emotions. The atmosphere in the classroom has significantly shifted – there's now a sense of calm and mutual respect that wasn't there before. Students who once struggled with behavior or attention issues are now able to manage their feelings and return to their work with a positive mindset.\r\n\r\nBeyond the immediate benefits, the Calm Corner is teaching my students essential life skills in emotional intelligence, resilience, and empathy.
