Because of your support, our 4th and 5th grade students now have the books they need to train, collaborate, and compete as true literary athletes.\r\n\r\nIn classrooms, reading can often be an independent activity. Today, it looks and feels like a vibrant team sport! We are excited to see 4th and 5th graders sitting together in small huddles, eagerly comparing notes, quizzing each other on plot points, and passionately debating character motivations. Having these physical books in their hands transforms their reading from a solitary task into a shared, high-energy experience across our upper elementary grades.\r\n\r\nThese new texts are introducing our students to much more than just new vocabulary and higher-level comprehension skills. Through the Reading Olympics list, they are set to learn teamwork, sportsmanship, time management, and critical thinking. They will discover how to hold each other accountable, push past challenging chapters, and celebrate every member's contribution to the squad.\r\n\r\nWe have a few students in particular who have completely lit up since the books arrived. Some of our reluctant readers who used to hesitate during independent reading time are now excited to lead their team discussions on their assigned titles. Seeing their confidence skyrocket as they prepare for the competition is one of the best part of this initiative that you have made possible!\r\n\r\nYou didn't just give our students books—you helped us build a brand-new tradition of literacy, teamwork, and pride here in Philadelphia.
