Where they all go is a mystery at times. In a class of 25 or so we can go through so many pencils you can't keep up with the sharpening. The notebooks and tabs are an essential part of our daily learning. We use these throughout the day to practice our writing. The students use the notebooks to write the morning message, respond to a Reading essential question, and to write sentences. These journals help the students penmanship with the elementary lines to help form the letters and correctly space their words apart as they write. In First grade students are learning to prefect their handwriting and sound out their words as they write their thoughts. The journals also allow the students to draw a picture to go with their writing.\r\n\r\nThe students were beyond thrilled when the project was funded. When they got their journals they were so excited to start using them. It is wonderful for the students to look back at their writing progress from the first time we started to use the journals, to now. Their writing has progressed so much already. The students also, love the sticky tabs to help them find the next page and keep their writing in order. Headphones are essential for individual learning and differentiation in the classroom for so many software programs. Headphones just don't last these days and our students do not have the resources or the transportation to get them. \r\n\r\nThis year especially has been very hard to get in any order from our district even for state testing. In math the testing accommodations allows for the questions and answers read aloud but with 25 to 30 students in a testing lab or classroom headphones are essential. Teachers have all been sharing a set of headphones just to complete these tasks. \r\n\r\nAs teachers we try to pass out and collect headphones after every period and we do not allow for the students to take them home. Its always extra time spent in the classroom but necessary because they are like gold.
