These boards allowed students to practice letter recognition, connect letters to their sounds, and build CVC words by physically manipulating each sound in a word. This hands-on approach made abstract phonics concepts more concrete, and I saw students grow in confidence as they began sounding out and spelling simple words more independently. The visual and tactile nature of the materials helped reinforce correct letter sequencing and strengthened both reading and spelling skills.\r\n\r\nWith these materials, I was able to create more structured and interactive literacy centers that supported independence and differentiation in my classroom. Students could work at their own level—some focusing on identifying letters and sounds, while others were ready to build and read full words—allowing me to better meet a wide range of learning needs. The magnetic boards also made it easier to model word building during whole-group lessons and provide targeted support in small groups. I am so grateful to our donors for helping make literacy learning more engaging, accessible, and effective for all of my students.","fullyFundedDate":1767281128920,"projectUrl":"project/magnetic-boards-for-word-work/9856326/","projectTitle":"Magnetic Boards for Word Work","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9920156_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1763752084533","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9920156"},{"teacherId":10138516,"projectId":10057396,"letterContent":"At the beginning of the school year, we were provided with a basic set that unfortunately broke after just two or three uses. The students immediately noticed the difference in sound and comfort, and they take pride in using equipment that feels reliable and special. It may seem like a small upgrade, but to them, it makes technology time feel important and exciting!\r\n\r\nThe students who have especially warmed up to this technology are my struggling but incredibly inspiring readers. Through read-along features and audiobooks during independent reading time, they are able to access stories that might have once felt out of reach. Instead of feeling discouraged by decoding challenges, they are engaged in the meaning of the story, building vocabulary, and developing confidence. I've watched students who once avoided books eagerly put on their headphones and dive into a story. Because the activity is self-correcting, students receive immediate feedback, which builds confidence and encourages independence. This type of tactile learning is especially impactful for young learners, as it allows them to physically manipulate materials while practicing essential skills in a meaningful way.\r\n\r\nBeyond skill development, learning locks will transform our morning centers into a more focused and motivating learning environment.
