So far the hydroponic plant system is a big hit! First my students read about the various parts of a plant and the purpose of those parts. Then I gave them a variety of materials and in partners, they had to create their own hydroponic system. My students were given either bean or pea seeds. We compared our project to a control: seeds growing in dirt. \r\n\r\nThen our hydroponic system arrived! We discussed the similarities and differences between their system and ours. The students then made the characters in the story. They were very engaged with the activity. The excitement was palpable. It was amazing to see who was successful and how students worked collaboratively to construct the animals Grandfather Tang made to show his granddaughter. \r\nThe characters included the foxes, a rabbit, dog, squirrel, hawk, turtle, crocodile, gold fish, goose, and a lion. Then, the students wanted to create more animals!
