I am noticing more and more independence in most of my students as they locate these tools to support their learning!\r\nThe games have become a big hit! My students have loved receiving different boxes filled with different art supplies. Yesterday we had a puppet show and later in the afternoon my students could be found creating different puppets and props.\r\n\r\nI have loved building the art center for my students because the materials are just for them. They can freely explore and use what they want without the boundaries of projects we may be doing in our classroom. We have been studying life cycles and animals. This grant showed up in pieces. Each day I opened a different box and the kids were incredibly curious as to what we were doing. When they found out we were going to be able to learn and watch the life cycle of a ladybug they were so excited.\r\n\r\nEach morning when my students arrive the first thing that they do is go over and see what the ladybugs are doing. Today they discovered that they are moving into the next phase and we spent time reading and observing what they were seeing. Insects are something that kids love to learn about and being able to watch it happen in the classroom has been really fun.\r\n\r\nI have loved doing this project with my students and helping enrich other subject areas. We have worked on writing and reading non-fiction text as we have explored this topic. My students have been incredibly engaged and we are all so thankful to have been gifted such amazing resources. Many of my students will choose to go and explore our science center during their play time and will spend time exploring the life cycle books and the life cycle kits. I have been working hard this year to limit screen time with them and focus on experiences using different tools for them to practice skills.\r\n\r\nThe Tonie box is the perfect tool to work on developing comprehension skills and to model fluency. The box itself is designed for young kids and is very intuitive for how to use it. My students love choosing the different characters and listening to the stories. They use it daily for centers, in fact, many choose to use it during playshop as well. Hearing a story that is not on a screen has become more of a novelty and they love it!\r\n\r\nAs an educator I love that I can choose a variety of stories for my students. Today we listened to one on space. Students were able to draw while listening to show what they were learning. My classroom was silent they were so engaged.\r\n\r\nAs a public school teacher the generosity of donors is never lost on me. The life-cycle of a plant is always a favorite unit for my students. We have continued learning about the lifecycle through our pumpkin experiment. This will allow my students to fully experience how plants grow and each will be able to take home a starter to plant. \r\n\r\nIn March, we will move our focus to living things needs and move into plants and will create a garden play area.
