My kindergarten students love book and love to read. Often I find them lying around the room next to their friends looking at books and reading stories with their friends. The sound of kindergarten kids retelling stories and giggling at funny pictures is what reading is all about. Currently though, my classroom environment doesn't have a cozy feel to settle down and read. When I go home to read, I find the most comfortable place that I can so that I can settle in and enjoy my book. I want to build an area in my classroom where my students can feel that comfort and grow their passion for book and reading. Currently my classroom has a tile floor and regular classroom chairs and tables. I'd like for my students to feel comfortable either laying on a rug with a friend or buried in a bean bag. The materials aside from the rug are able to be moved which gives students choice as to where they want to settle in, whether it's with a friend or in a quiet corner. My goal is to encourage and build my students love for reading by providing them a cozy nook.
