The ten frames and magnetic base-ten blocks have helped students see numbers in a concrete way instead of only working with abstract symbols. Students can build numbers, compare amounts, practice addition and subtraction, and explain their thinking using the materials. The reading instruction book has also given me more ideas for teaching important reading skills in a clear, step-by-step way, such as phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and supportive. Students read in different ways, including listening to stories, reading with a partner, practicing independently, and working with me in small groups. We talk about what is happening in the text, look for evidence, practice new words, and build confidence as readers. The whiteboards and markers have made lessons more interactive because students can quickly write answers, practice spelling patterns, draw models, or show their thinking without feeling the pressure of a full worksheet.\r\n\r\nThese materials have been especially helpful for students with learning difficulties because they give them more ways to participate and feel successful. Some students who are hesitant to answer aloud are more willing to show their thinking on a whiteboard. Others enjoy using the magnetic math tools because they can move the pieces around and physically build their understanding. I have seen students become more engaged, more confident, and more willing to try challenging tasks because these materials make learning feel manageable and encouraging.\r\n\r\nThank you so much again for your generous donation.","fullyFundedDate":1778302435736,"projectUrl":"project/equipping-students-with-learning-disabil/10271383/","projectTitle":"Equipping Students with Learning Disabilities for Reading and Math Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. DeJonge","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3093032_orig.jpg?crop=1003,1003,x539,y6&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762044329601","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3093032"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_121955","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":242,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":24,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":78,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":86.7,"schoolId":121955,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Jenison Innovation Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Jenison Innovation Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/jenison-public-school-district/jenison-international-academy/121955"}
