Many of my Special Education and Emergent Bilingual students benefit from visuals paired with text, and these new resources have allowed them to access complex Biology concepts like cell structure, DNA, and energy systems in a way that finally makes sense. Students are learning how to connect images with vocabulary, identify key ideas, and explain scientific processes using both words and visuals. These are critical skills that support not only science learning, but also reading comprehension and language development across all subjects.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading no longer looks like silent struggle—it looks like engagement, discussion, and confidence. Students are pointing to diagrams, using visuals to explain their thinking, and collaborating with peers to make meaning of the content. I see students using sentence stems, labeling diagrams, and participating in conversations they might have previously avoided. The combination of pictures and structured support has made learning more inclusive and accessible for all.\r\n\r\nI have several students who have especially thrived with these materials. One student who typically hesitates to read aloud is now volunteering to explain diagrams to the class. Another student who is still developing English proficiency is able to use the visuals to understand and participate in lessons more independently. Moments like these remind me why these resources matter so much. Your support has not only provided materials—it has given my students confidence, voice, and a true opportunity to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1773834191438,"projectUrl":"project/bio-brilliance-learning-with-pictures-a/9908711/","projectTitle":"Bio Brilliance: Learning with Pictures and Possibilities","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Melonie Ann Gueller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7921632_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1627001938213","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7921632"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17060","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1040,"numTeachers":81,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":99,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":57.7,"schoolId":17060,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Jefferson High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Jefferson High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/el-paso-independent-school-district/jefferson-high-school/17060"}
