The students will be reading The Hot Zone by Richard Preston. At my old high school, this book was read by all Pre-AP Biology students and a project was required. When I moved districts, this book was not required. I would love for my students to read this book and come up with some creative projects from this book. Plus, students will be able to apply what happens in this book to COVID-19. Why were workers burning the fields? What impact does this have on the migration of microbes and the natural biodiversity of an area? These are some of the engaging questions that will be asked. This books is amazing for me to tie in various Biology topics, but I just need a class set to start the engaging.
